The National Museum of Contemporary History

is a state museum, which provides a central public service in the area of the entangible heritage of contemporary history, from the begining of the 20th century.

THE MISSION AND COLLECTION POLICY

On the basis of its mission, it preserves, studies and comunicates the material and non-material heritage in the sphere of  the history of the Slovene ethnic space from the begining of the 20th century.

The National Museum of Contemporary History lists, collects, documents, protects, studies and presents the entangible heritage of the Slovenian ethnic space, national minorities, emigrants and immigrants from the beginning of the 20th century onwards – focusing on the First and Second World Wars, the First and Second Yugoslavias and independent Slovenia. The Museum stores museal items, works of art and posters, documentary and art photos, and sound and movie recordings. It has a rich library and archives. All museal collections are supplemented through collection, purchase and donation.

The traces World War Two left on the boundaries between today’s southern Austria and northern Slovenia still await research. Witnesses of past events are still alive today, but there are fewer and fewer of them and time is running out. Yet it is with the help of their memories that I want to find the true story of the events of those days. Keeping this story from falling into oblivion is the main motivation for my work in the National Museum of Contemporary History in Slovenia.

Muzej novejše zgodovine Slovenije

je osrednja slovenska ustanova, ki zbira, hrani, preučuje in razstavlja premično in živo dediščino s področja zgodovine slovenskega etničnega prostora od začetka 20. stoletja dalje.

POSLANSTVO MNZS

Osnovno poslanstvo Muzeja noveše zgodovine Slovenije je evidentiranje, pridobivanje, hranjenje, raziskovanje in promoviranje gradiva slovenske novejše zgodovine. Muzej se s svojimi dejavnostmi razstav in drugih muzejskih programov za otroke in odrasle konstituira kot most med zgodovinsko znanostjo in najširšo javnostjo. Svoje polje aktivnosti definira v kulturi, izobraževanju in raziskovalnem delu ter se v ta namen povezuje z različnimi ustanovami. Povezuje usode ljudi slovenskega dvajsetega stoletja in svojim obiskovalcem nudi odgovore na vprašanja o  lastni identiteti  v sodobnem času. MNZS je srečališče najrazličnejših skupin in prostor dialoga ter razmisleka. Na vprašanja ne le odgovarja, ampak jih tudi zastavlja. Na slednja obiskovalci skupaj z muzejem iščejo odgovore. V tem partnerstvu muzej deluje kot dinamična, inovativna in gostoljubna ustanova.

Sledovi vojnih dogodkov druge svetovne vojne na obmejnih področjih današnje južne Avstrije in severne Slovenije še terjajo raziskave. Ker so priče še žive je treba pohiteti in s pričami želim priti do resnice. To je moja glavna motivacija za delo v Muzeju novejše zgodovine v Ljubljani.
